Tampa Bay Welcome Event
Things are happening FAST down here at there RNC. Sunday night was a big media welcome event at Tropicana Field sponsored by the Tampa Bay Host Committee. Approximately 15,000 attendees were present- mainly delegates, media outlets, and industry personalities. Getting into the venue was a struggle. After exercising all resources to get the coveted media passes we finally made it into the event. I, along with many others, got mixed up in a shuffle of protesters outside the perimeter of the venue. “We bought our way in too” protesters shouted at us. “The GOP doesn’t care about me,” echoed through my ears as fake money was thrown and angry 99%ers shoved pamphlets of information into my hands.
Once getting into the event, the atmosphere was drastically different. There was lots of food and drink to celebrate the start of the GOP Convention. Performances included belly-dancers, tampa bay cheerleaders, and circus acts. It was a beautiful evening to socialize and begin shaping the conversation around the 2012 RNC Convention.
Isaac
The hurricane has arrived. Ominous cloud are looming over the Tampa Bay Times Forum and winds are picking up speed. All hope Tuesday's events will take place as scheduled.
